Beauty Box Swap | Daphne from Daffnee.com

beauty-box-swap-with-daffnee

When I first started blogging in June, Daphne from Daffnee.com was one of the very first bloggers I met. We clicked immediately and spent a lot of time chatting away about life, love, and our passions for makeup, blogging and Doctor Who! After a couple of months of messaging back and forth (and working around a 12 hour time difference as she's from Taiwan), we decided to do a beauty box swap. We agreed to surprise one another, but we wanted the products to be from each other's home country or hard for the other to get in their home country.

After setting a budget we talked a little about what sorts of things we'd like to have in our boxes. Putting all of our trust in each other, we both set off to shopping, and it turned out fabulously! I was so excited when I saw the package in my mailbox, and after seeing all the goodies inside I was even more thrilled. I could not have asked for a better first swap. Here's all the lovely products I received from Daphne this fall!

Beauty How-To | Irritated Skin Rescue

DISCLAIMER: This post contains products sent to me for free by a brand or PR company in exchange for a review. However, all words and opinions are firmly my own, as always.

Back in October, I posted a review of a fantastic face mask perfect for dry, sensitive skin. I explained that I'd had a reaction to a new product I'd tried, and my skin had been left red, raw, and irritated. While using the face mask was a large part of helping to get my skin back in shape in just a few short days, it was ultimately a part of a whole regimen. No matter how careful you are with your skin, there is always the chance that a crazy reaction can strike at any time. Here's my personal plan and tips for getting you through, and back to beautiful skin!

(DISCLAIMER: I'm not a medical expert, so if you have a severe reaction, or a rash or irritation that won't subside, skip this and go straight to a professional!  They'll know best how to get you right as rain.)

Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Daily Face Peel - Review

dr-dennis-gross-alpha-beta-daily-face-peels
Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Daily Face Peels, $88.00
Hello, beauties! Happy Friday! It's time to relax a little and really settle into this luxurious autumn weather. The days are cool, the nights even cooler, and the leaves are finishing their turn from green to shades of orange, yellow and red. It's time to pull out our much neglected hats, scarves and sweaters, and wear lovely plums, browns and reds on our faces and fingers.

Also with the crisp, autumn air comes changes to our skin. The cold and harsh winds can leave our faces looking dried out and lackluster. Not to mention the sudden redness! Unless I'm looking jolly-cheeked like Santa, I can do without redness, thank you very much. That's where today's product comes in!

Murad Oil Control Mattifier - Review

murad-oil-control-mattifier
Murad Oil Control Mattifier, $39.50
I have combination skin, and I don't know about others of you with skin like mine, but I still get massively oily sometimes. One minute my skin will be doing just fine, and then WHAM! My skin will become a slick, shiny mess. In the past, I'd immediately go wash my face to try and balance it back out, but some days my skin just wasn't having it.

Then I went for a Murad facial, and my skincare routine changed. After giving my skin a good once over, and my face a full, proper clean, the aesthetician suggested I try the Murad Oil Control Mattifier. From there out, this little baby has been a life saver on many a difficult skin day.

Bath and Body Works Haul

bath-and-body-works-haul

Before we get too far into the cooler months, I wanted to show the last of my summer hauls. Bath and Body Works is one of my favorite stores to go in to. The products are always fantastic, and our local store is huge with wall to wall lotions, potions, and smelly goods. In fact, the mall has TWO Bath and Body Works stores inside! One on each floor! Apparently, we're very serious about our bath and body products.

Growing up, there was this sort of stigma that B&BW was just for kids and teens, and no adult would be caught dead wearing a little Cucumber Melon or Sweet Pea. But over the years, the vibe and the packaging has "grown up" making it so that us adults have no shame when popping in to buy things. Plus, they have enough candles, reed diffusers, plug-ins and other sundry home items to give Yankee Candle a run for their money!

Over the summer, Bath and Body Works was having an extensive sale, so I thought then would be the time to stock up on a couple of items. I'd picked up a few lotions, so I was on the prowl for fragrances and things to make my home smell amazing. And I'd say I pulled a pretty good haul. Take a look!

Fighting acne got you down? Hate the feel of having to load up on multiple products to keep your skin in line? Today, I'm bringing you a review on a fabulous new product that helps to clear up your skin while also serving as a primer for your makeup. Skinetica has been making the rounds in the UK after becoming a smash hit in the October 2012 Glossybox. Needless to say, I was absolutely thrilled when Skinetica contacted me, an American blogger, about sampling their product.

For those of you not in the know, Skinetica's Anti-Blemish Treatment is this amazing wonder product that clears acne, cuts down on future breakouts, and doubles as a primer for your makeup application, all without harsh ingredients like salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. At first I thought this was a tall order for just one product, but y'all know how much I love a good double duty item. With this in mind, I was ready to test out the claims!

I'm a big fan of blush, so I'm really excited about this week's topic! DISCLAIMER: This post contains products sent to me for free by a brand or PR company in exchange for a review. However, all words and opinions are firmly my own, as always.

These days there are so many subscription boxes out there. You have ones for makeup, jewelry, clothes, food, even baby supplies! How is a girl to choose? So when Wantable contacted me about trying out one of their boxes for free, I jumped at the chance to see if this one stood out from the crowd.

The big selling point for Wantable is that each month their makeup boxes contain four to five full-sized products with a box value totaling over $80. None of those mini and deluxe size samples! You get real, full sized versions of fantastic luxury items. Part of my peeve with subscription boxes has been the fact that you essentially pay for samples you could get for free at Sephora, so when I read about Wantable's boxes, I knew I was in for a treat!

The Starting Off Project | Concealer

Hello, beauties! It's week two of The Starting Off Project, a blogging series full of tips and tricks to help beauty newbies learn the ropes of makeup. Last week, we opened the series with a post dedicated to skincare techniques and must have products. Today, we'll be delving into the world of concealer!

So, for the uninitiated, what, exactly, is concealer? Concealer is this handy dandy little product that has a plethora of uses. It corrects, it brightens, it perfects, and it highlights, creating a flawless base. It's really, in my opinion, one of the most important products that a person can have in their beauty arsenal. The rule of thumb is to get a concealer a shade or two lighter than your skin tone, and in my experience this rule has always worked a treat.

The Starting Off Project | Skincare

the-starting-off-project-skincare

Hello, beauties! It's the official start of The Starting Off Project! Today's topic is all about skincare for beginners. Now, I'll be completely honest, I'm not the kind of person who has a huge skincare routine. I like mine quick and dirty, and anytime I can multi-task, I'm up for it!

I've personally learned that it doesn't always take a lot to get beautiful skin, though some will tell you otherwise. My great-grandmother's skincare routine consisted of water, her trusty Dove soap bar, and a nightly application of rosewater and glycerin. That's it! And just that small routine kept her skin youthful and wrinkle free for a lot longer than her peers. I guess I take my skincare philosophy from her in that way. Less can be more!

So without further adieu, here are my tips for setting up a fast and easy skincare routine, and a few of my most trusted products!

Hard Candy Glamoflauge Heavy Duty Concealer, $6.00
If there is one thing I know, it's that every makeup loving girl wants to find the perfect concealer. We want a concealer that covers dark circles, red spots, pimples, scars, anything that makes our skin look less than flawless. They say that less is more. I agree! The less imperfections that show, the more confident I feel.

Last year, prior to getting married, I was trying to sort out my makeup for all the pre-wedding festivities, and finding a budget-friendly, wonder concealer was at the top of my list. So on a trip to Wal-Mart, I took a little waltz down the makeup aisle and came across today's item. It touted that it could cover tattoos, and I figured if the coverage was that high, it could definitely do the trick for my stress acne and sleep deprived dark circles!

Blog Goals | August 2013

Hello, beauties! How was your week? Mine was lovely! Full of loads of relaxing and planning new posts for you dear readers. If you didn't see the news on Twitter, this past week this little blog hit over 10,000 page views. As a blogger just starting out, hitting a milestone such as that this early is absolutely astonishing to me!

I would have never thought in a million years that anyone would care to read my ramblings, let alone visit the blog that often. So, thank you to each and every one of you who've stopped by, commented and subscribed. For the first time in my life I feel like I've finally found my calling, and I could not do any of it without all of you!

With that being said, lately I've been thinking a lot about goals I'd like to accomplish, but my thoughts have always been so disorganized. However, yesterday I stumbled across a post by the lovely Becky Bedbug which laid out her growth plan for the month of August. After giving it a read, I was inspired to take the weekend to sit down and really get a feel for what it is I, too, wanted to accomplish this month. So without further adieu, here are my goals for the month of August!

LUSH Cosmetics Sea Spray Hair Mist - Review

LUSH Cosmetics Sea Spray Hair Mist, $12.95
I must confess, I'm not a huge fan of the beach. However, there is one thing about going to the ocean that I absolutely adore. I love having sea salt in my hair, wind whipping through it, giving it the most glorious smell and texture. There is absolutely nothing like it! Sure, my hair might be a nuisance to untangle later, but it just looks so sensual and feels like the very definition of sunshine, vacation, and relaxation. So, of course, I've been looking for the perfect salt spray so I can bring a little bit of that coastal escape home. Unfortunately, today's offering just wasn't the paradise I was hoping for.

Blog Collaboration | Seven for the Rainbow

Hello, beauties! I hope you all have had a fantastic week so far. Today, I'm coming to you with something really special! For a few weeks now, I've been discussing doing a blog collaboration with the sweet Daphne from Daffnee.com. So we decided to team up and host one with five other fabulous beauty bloggers.

The premise is that each of us pick a color of the rainbow, swapping out indigo for pink, and we then pick five of our favorite products from our color to share with our readers. Well, lovelies, that time is now! I picked pink, an old favorite of mine, and I've got some lush products that I think you'll all just drool over. I know I do! So, let's get started, shall we?

Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush | Pink Frosting - Review + Swatch

Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush | Pink Frosting, $8.29
I have to say, I've never been one for cream blushes. With a face that is highly prone to breakouts, I've found cream products harder to work with over the high coverage products that I tend to use.  However, every time I've popped into my local Target or the drugstore down the street, Maybelline's Dream collection stops me in my tracks.

Eventually, I just couldn't take having to eye this beauty for another day, so I took the plunge and snapped one up. I remember standing in front of the display with a handful of them begging my husband to help me pick out the right one. Which, of course, was a bit silly as he truly knows nothing about makeup or colors. In the end, I decided I wanted to go for this gorgeous, girly pink (surprise, surprise), and I'm so glad I did!
