NYC Smooth Skin Loose Face Powder - Review

NYC Smooth Skin Loose Face Powder, $2.99
I don't know about you guys, but I'm always on the search for a great face powder. I want good coverage, all day wear, and no clumping, flaking or drying. Finding that seems to be harder than finding a good red lipstick! However, I think I've finally found a great contender, and the best part is it fits even the tiniest of budgets!

Last summer, I developed a bit of a tan for the first time in years. Many an afternoon poolside took me from my natural porcelain glow to a lovely golden color. Adding some color to my skin excited me, but I soon realized that none of basic makeup would do anymore. It was all just so pale! I knew I needed some new foundation and powder, but since I hadn't had to find a shade other than "Casper the Friendly Ghost", I had no idea what color was going to be right.

So I popped over to the drugstore to take a look at budget brands that would help me gauge my new color without having to spend recklessly. As I was walking by the NYC display, I came across this face powder and I have to say I've been shocked at just how good it is!

NYC Smooth Skin Loose Face Powder is a fantastically soft powder with the smoothest finish I've ever experienced. The wear is absolutely gorgeous, and it is so light that you'll be wondering if you even put any makeup on at all! I layer it over top my foundation, or use a light buffing of it over my BB cream, and it stays put flawlessly all day. And you don't have to use much at all, so one jar will last you for quite a long time. Plus, with ingredients such as oat flour and calendula, your skin will feel lush and smooth even after you've washed the product away!

If you can get your hands on it, I'd definitely recommend this as a great alternative to more expensive powders. The one thing to be aware of is that the lid doesn't screw on and instead just sits snuggly on top, so you have to be extra careful with travel.

I'm not sure I'd classify it as an HG product as I'd like to test more powders before I make that decision, but I do really love this one and can't believe the quality you get for less than a gallon of gas. It is amazing!

Have any of you tried the NYC Smooth Skin Loose Face Powder? Do you have a face powder that you swear by that you'd recommend?

    1. It is so cheap! I'm hoping you can still purchase it as I don't always see it when I'm in the store! If not, you might want to try their pressed powder! Fingers crossed it is just as good!

  3. Good suggestion when you need a bit of a darker color due to getting a tan! I hate to spend a lot for a powder that I will need just "seasonally". Will defintely check this out next time I'm at the drugstore!!

    1. I wish I could just use a powder foundation! My skin is so dry that I have to do a million things to it before I can add a powder! I've wanted to take the plunge into Bare Minerals, but I'm not sure if I could keep up with the costs of using it! How long does yours last? That might help me figure out whether the cost would be good for my needs! x

  5. I'm hesitant with loose powders simply because I drop my makeup everywhere and I just know that I'm going to make a mess with them. But this one sounds amazing!
Whenever I see makeup that's ridiculously cheap, I tend to waver away from it cuz I just automatically think it's going to be horrible....it's like I have a sickness that NEEDS to spend more money....UGH.

    1. I'm a klutz with loose powders, too! I get it all over my clothes when I'm applying it! Such a mess! This one is really fab even though the price is low! I can understand the skepticism as a lot of low price brands aren't worth the bargain, but this one is really lovely! I promise I wouldn't steer you wrong! x

    1. Yay! I'm glad to hear you have it and love it! Isn't the finish just gorgeous? If I had no concept of brands, I'd think this one was higher end with as good as it is! I know some people complain about the sieve holes being too small, but I find them to be huge! There is always a ton when I open it up and it does really get everywhere like you said! x

  8. I use this one and like it too, great price. I don't like the pressed powder though and prefer the translucent pressed powder from rimmel.

    1. I'm so glad that you're a fellow lover of this product! And thank you for letting me know that you prefer the Rimmel pressed powder over the NYC version! I'll definitely have to check it out next time I pop to the store! x

  9. I agree it is incredibly smooth and light for the price, but it doesn't last more than an hour on me, and I absolutely hate reapplying x

    1. Aw, I'm so sorry to hear that. How do you apply the powder? Do you just use the powder, or do you layer it over top of other products? I apply a Bobbi Brown moisturizer/primer first, and then my foundation and concealer before buffing this powder on top. When I use just the powder, it definitely doesn't stay on for very long! x

  11. I'm not one to use a loose powder but the price is very affordable and may look into it! Congraulations on your move! I know how hard it is to start from scratch. My partner and I had moved into our new home last year and it is no were near finished.
