The Skincare Tag

current-skincare-favorites, the-skincare-tag

A few weeks back, I was tagged by Kirsty over at Taupe and Pearl to participate in the Skincare Tag that was started by Kat from Tales of a Pale Face. I was stoked to be asked to give my thoughts, and couldn't wait to do it as it sounded like loads of fun. Well, time got away with me a bit, but I'm here today with my answers, products, and tips that I feel make my skin glowing and fabulous. Read on to see what I do that just might work for you, too!

1. Describe your skincare routine in 5 words.
Simple, quick, budget, changing, clean.

2. What's your skin type?
I used to believe that my skin was mostly dry. And when I had makeup done for my wedding, the MUA never led me to believe otherwise. However, having just dry skin could never account for my massive oil slicks in places. Finally, I had a Murad facial done by a licensed esthetician and found that I really had combo skin that wasn't actually that bad. Just wacked out from the wrong products! Add in a little hormonal acne, and a touch of sensitivity, and you've got my skin type.

3. What's your favorite skincare product?
I am in love with Dr. Dennis Gross' Alpha Beta Daily Face Peels. They always leave my skin glowing and perfectly exfoliated without wicking too much moisture away. I don't use them daily as they are a tad harsh for my skin, but they are perfect before big nights out. Makes my skin look absolutely amazing!

4. Top Blemish Zapper?
I have always been a fan of Burt's Bees Herbal Blemish Stick. It smells strongly of parsley, but it's always helped to dry those little buggers right up! I've tried other products before, but I always keep coming back to this particular one.

5. Face Wipes, Yay or Nay?
Yay all the way! I love having different ones for different uses. Some remove makeup, some exfoliate, some merely wash. Either way, they make skincare so easy. Plus, I'm a lazy skincare person, so I want something I can grab and go, or that I can do whilst sitting in bed. And it's great that you basically get a month's supply and don't have to think about it too much.

6. Toner, Yay or Nay?
I'm sort of in between on them. As I don't have large pores or anything, it seems that toner does little for my skin. However, I currently use a face wash with toner in it and my skin does seem lovely. Not sure if it is the toner or other ingredients. I also have a rosewater spray from the Boots collection at Target that I've been using when my skin gets a bit oilier than I'd like, but I have to be careful with it as too much tightens my skin and dries it out.

7. High end skincare or high end makeup?
I think it depends. Some things are better left to high end brands, but some things are just as good when they are budget buys. I have a daily moisturizer that is by Simple that I adore, but when I want a little extra oomph, I throw on my Bobbi Brown moisturizer. Same with makeup. I can always use a bit of Cover Girl for regular use, but switch to my higher end products for special occasions. It all just depends on what kind of wear I'm looking for.

8. What's the most unusual skincare product you've tried?
I wouldn't say that I'm much of a skincare adventurer. Though, I have wanted to start getting different spa treatments to see what works and what doesn't. Dreaming of a nice warm mud bath! I think the Alpha Beta peels are the most adventurous I've gotten, and I would have never picked them up if the makeup artist for my wedding hadn't used them on me and gotten me hooked. They are fantastic!

9. You're in a French pharmacy and can only pick one item. Which is it?
Bioderma, of course! Every skincare fanatic needs to try it at least once. I'd love to experience what all the hype is about.

10. Tell us your top skincare tip!
Ok, so a couple, and I think they are big ones. Drink loads of water! It will help improve the look and quality of your skin. Less is definitely more when it comes to skincare. You don't have to overwork your face with a million products. A couple of good ones will do. And if you are ever in doubt, go to a certified aesthetician who can help you sort the right products for your skin type.

    1. Thank you, ladies! You two are fab! I feel like Simple is becoming a fast favorite when it comes to skincare for me! It's gentle, it doesn't break me out, and it does all the things it says it will! Can't go wrong there! xx

    1. You are quite welcome! You know I'm going to end up tagging you for most things! And since you're already doing a little something on skincare, I thought this could be a really good supplement!

I'm really loving my Murad products, too! Just wish they weren't so pricey! Just realized that my mattifying moisturizer was nearly $40! Absolute insanity! xx

  5. This is so funny, we have so many of the same products! Are you a Boots fan by any chance?! :p I really like Simple products as well, although I do have to switch them up with other things or my skin seems to get 'used' to them and starts demanding some variety! I reviewed the Botanics Toning Spritz over on the blog today, I really like it and haven't found it too drying, it seems to suit my temperamental skin type!

I really would love to see a dermatologist and have them take a look at my skin, as it could do with some expert advice I think. Or at least have an experienced facialist take a look at it! I'm planning on doing that before the wedding :)

Thanks so much for tagging me, I can't wait to get started on it, love these types of posts! As always yours is super well written and a joy to read xxx

    1. We've started getting Boots brand products here in the US at Target! I actually have a mini haul with Boots stuff coming up! I think that the toning spritz you reviewed is the exact spritz I bought a few weeks ago! Love using it! Just have to be careful to not use too much! I love Simple, as well, obviously! For a drugstore brand, it really works like a charm!

You should definitely let a professional have a look at your skin sometime! It was wonderful having people telling me exactly what skincare products I needed to properly care for my skin! I definitely don't break out near as much or have as many dry spots!

Can't wait for you to write up your post! Link me when you do! xx

  6. I love these posts. It's always fun to have a little nosey at people's skin care x

    1. I know! Tags are such a fantastic way to get to know a blogger better! I'm so glad Kat created this one! Definitely made me sit down and think about my skincare routine! xx
