The First Time Tag

Hello, beauties! Recently I'd been tagged by Daphne from Subgenre of a Dream, and Kate from Kate Bobbi to do The First Time tag, For those of you out of the loop, it's essentially a tag about some of our "firsts" (and not in that way, so get your head out of the gutter). It's a great way to get to know the person behind the blog, and I was really excited to get tagged. So, here are some of my firsts!

1. First Best Friend?

If I remember correctly, my first best friend was a girl named Jackie. We went to primary school together, and took dance together, and just loved hanging out! Going to her house was my first sleepover, and I remember being so scared to be away from home, but we ended up having a blast. I moved away after first grade, and I haven't seen her since. Though, some days I still wonder what she's up to and if she's done okay for herself.

2. First Kiss?

I had my first kiss in seventh grade with my boyfriend at the time, Jonathan. I remember it was fall, and he gave me a peck on the lips outside before school started. I was SO excited for lunchtime, so I could tell my friends. And then they all were wet blankets saying it wasn't a first kiss unless there was tongue! I was so disappointed! What silly things kids think sometimes.

3. First Concert?

My very first concert was this trio called Sharon, Lois, and Bram. If you were an American or Canadian kid in the late 80s like I was, you might remember them from The Elephant Show and the infamous "Skinnamarink" song! I adored them as a child, so my parents took me to see them on tour. I even got to go backstage afterwards to shake their hands. I couldn't have been very old at the time as I don't remember much more of the concert than that.

4. First Celeb Crush?

I guess my first celebrity crush would probably have to be Michael Jackson. My parents used to play him loads when I was little, and I remember the first time I saw him I fell in love. I was completely obsessed with him! There's even family video of me dancing to his Bad album when I was around one or two. I think "Bad" was probably the first song I ever learned. That crush lasted until I was about eight or nine. Then I moved on to Tommy, the Green Ranger, from Power Rangers!

5. First Job?

Can you consider babysitting a first job? I did that quite a bit as a teenager, and it helped me to earn a bit of spending money here and there. My first grown up job was as a secretary/assistant in the Resident Life office at my college through the Work Study program, where I worked for several years. I basically checked mail, answered phones, helped students with questions, put up message boards, and keyed in students who got locked out of their rooms.

6. First Phone?

I honestly can't remember exactly what it was. All I remember was that it was an old candy bar Nokia that was a bit of a brick. It had one of those pull out antennas and all you could play on it was Snake. And I think it only held, like, 20 text messages. I thought it was cool at the time, though!

7. First Music I Bought?

The first music I bought was Hanson's Middle of Nowhere and Spice Girls' Spice. I wanted those albums so bad for my 11th birthday, and they were exactly what I got! On tape, no less! I didn't have a CD player yet, so I had to settle for tapes. I remember taking those babies with me everywhere and insisting they get played when I was out and about. Still two of my favorite albums of all time!

8. First Tweet?

So, I have a personal account that I never use, and so I popped over and my first tweet was on April 21st, 2009. And it says: "I've lost my Twitterginity. It took long enough. Was it as good for you as it was for me?". I have no idea what I was thinking! My next tweets had me insulting Twilight fans, cheering for hockey, and being excited about seeing Ben Folds in concert. So many memories!

9. First Makeup?

The first makeup I can remember buying was makeup basics from Jane like foundation, powder, eye liner, that sort of thing. I did a little short-lived modeling when I was 11 and 12, and I was taught how to do a basic face for go sees and casting calls. So I went and bought what I'd need, and I remember it being mostly Jane Cosmetics.

10. First Word?

Depending on which family member you ask, you'll get a different answer. My mom says it was "momma". My late grandmother said it was "truck". Other family members say it was "clock". Either way, once I got started talking, I never stopped! I'm a gabbing queen!

11. First Pet?

The first pet I can remember having was a cat called Kitty Runt. You'd think she was named Runt because she was small. No. I called her Kitty Runt because she "runt away" so many times! I was little and had no idea what I was doing. I also named cats Kitty Brown and Kitty Black. Basically, I had no imagination! Until I got my first gerbil, which I named Sassy Precocious. I was a weird child.

So, that's it! That's the First Time tag. I'm supposed to tag other bloggers, so here are a few I'd love to see give this one a go.

Adrienne from Late Night Nonsense
Imogen from The Bluebird and the Robin
Tilly from Love, Tilly
Laura from What Laura Loves
Elinor from Little Red

Now that I've shared some of my firsts, why not leave me one of yours in the comments? I'd love to get to know a little bit more about each one of you lovely readers!

  1. Sassy Precocious, that's the coolest name ever! Haha, made me giggle! It definitely has a ring to it! I loved reading this, you have such a friendly writing style, it's wonderful reading a lifestyle post, have you thought about writing more? High five on the Spice Girls tape by the way! I had tapes for such a long time and I got their album for Christmas one year and didn't stop playing it until I knew all the words! When I was about ten Geri Halliwell auctioned of all her Spice Girls clothes at an auction house here in London and as my Dad worked there I was able to try on her clothes. As in, try on her union Jack dress. I was beside myself! I have some seriously cringe worthy photos lurking around somewhere, haha. Best day ever!

Oh and Tommy the green ranger, yes! I have such a vivid memory of him coming back as the white ranger (right? Or is that actually wrong?!Haha, childhood memory!) and Kimberley seeing him and running up to him, total joy on her face, before he lifted her up and swung her around in the air. Omg I thought that was the actual definition of true love right there! *sigh*

Talk about a trip down memory lane! The whole time I was reading I had my fingers crossed that you'd tag me, thanks so much! I can't wait to give this one a go :)

Hope you had a great time at the wedding, any pics of your outfit and makeup? I'd love to see!xx

  3. Thanks for tagging me gorgeous! Love your pets names!!!!! xxxx

  4. Ppsh, who said that they wouldn't have interesting stories to tell! Timey Wimey, I see what you did there! ;)

Haha, I called my hamster Fluffy! I think I win the award for not being imaginative, as you at least had Sassy Precious.
Green and Kimberly! I didn't even remember that swing in the air move until Imogen brought it up. Yup, that's true love right there! Don't even try to correct me. :P And can I just say, your first words were ridiculously coherent! x
