The Starting Off Project | Bronzer

the-starting-off-project-bronzer

It's Tuesday, which means it's time for a new post in The Starting Off Project! This week's topic is all about bronzer. Now, I'll be totally honest, as a frightfully pale lady, I am very basic when it comes to bronzer. If I'm not careful with it, I can turn out like an oompa-loompa instead of a sun-kissed goddess! So if you are a fellow alabaster babe, you'll get where I'm coming from with today's post. Let's get started!

What exactly is bronzer? Bronzer is this handy dandy little product that can help you achieve a sun-kissed glow without ever having to leave the comfort of your home! It comes in all sorts of formulas from gels to liquids to powders, so there is a little something to fit everyone's tastes. It also has a wide variety of colors. Some are golden, some are brown, some are rosy pink. You can get them with shimmer, without shimmer, full on glitter or classically neutral. There are so many options!

Which bronzer is best for you? Well, that depends on what look you're trying to achieve. For day looks, lighter bronzers with little to no shimmer are your best bet. They'll help to give your face depth without looking like you're heading for the club. For night, let those shimmers out! Shimmer bronzers will give you that dewy glow that screams summer beach party. Every makeup stash should have one of each type of bronzer to keep you prepared for any occasion!

What shade should you wear? The rule of thumb is to only go a couple of shades darker than your natural skin tone. You want to look like you've been out in the sun, not like you've gotten into Snooki's tanning stash! Some bronzers tell you right on the package which skintone they're made for, so if you've never touched bronzer before in your life, this is a good way to jump in.

How is bronzer applied? I like to apply my bronzer to give off a natural look. For everyday application, the thing to remember is to hit the areas that sun would naturally hit and tan on the face. So, taking a nice, fluffy brush, give your bronzer a swirl and tap. Then hit key areas like your temples, cheekbones, and the tip of your nose and chin. Go in lightly at first, and then build from there if necessary.

What are some good bronzers? For day looks, I really love the Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Rose Gold, $42.00. It does have a hint of shimmer in it, but only just! And it's a gorgeous pinky brown color that can double as your blush so you don't have to pile on multiple products. For evening looks, I've been loving the Physicians Formula Happy Booster in Light Bronzer, $13.95. It has a gorgeous golden shimmer that you can wear on your face and your body for a sexy, nighttime glow.

Bronzer is such an easy to use product, and it doesn't take much to learn how to do it up proper. Once you've found the right one, it becomes like second nature to apply it to warm up your features. Trust me, there's nothing to it, so don't be scared of it. Bronzer is your friend, not your enemy!

Now that I've shared my fave bronzers, tell me some of yours! Leave your comments and suggestions below. Have fun playing around with all those gorgeous bronzers, y'all!

  1. I'm loving these posts! It's such a great idea.

My favourite bronzer has to be Hoola by Benefit, I've repurchased it a few times now.

  2. Such a helpful post! I'm super fair so I often shy away from bronzer unless i'm contouring which I tend to do more!
