The Holiday Feast Survival Guide

the-holiday-feast-survival-guide

Hello, beauties! In case you've let the time get away from you, Thursday is Thanksgiving! I don't know about everyone else, but I am ready to get my turkey on, watch the big parade, and spend time with those I love. But with holiday feasting comes great responsibility! Especially for those of us who are watching our weight. Today's post brings you five tips all about how to enjoy those fab holiday noms without the guilt.

1. Don't deny yourself! When it comes to holidays and trying to lose weight, the whole task can seem overwhelming. So many good foods, and here you are thinking that you have to skip over all your old faves. Don't skip! If you want a taste of pumpkin pie, have it! Eyeing the deviled eggs? Get one! Restriction is not the way to go. But my next point is.

2. Moderation, moderation, moderation! It might be a feast, but you don't need to gorge yourself! Little scoops of everything will go over better than piling your plate up like it's one of the seven wonders of the world. Instead of going overboard in typical holiday style, take a step back from multiple helpings. Your belly and your weight loss goals will thank you for it!

3. Go easy on the alcohol! Everyone knows that alcohol is mostly empty calories. While downing a few drinks with friends and family over the holidays is pretty standard, keep it to no more than a drink or two. Then, move away from the glass! Besides, getting wasted in front of great grammy is never a good look.

4. Play mind games...on yourself! There are so many little tricks you can utilize to make keeping on your diet easier. First, use a smaller plate and fill it up instead of a large plate. Your brain will register the full, small plate and think there is more food than there is. Also, put your utensils down between every bite. It helps you slow down and allows your stomach to feel full properly. And make sure to do lots of chatting, too! If all else fails, drink loads of water to help feel satiated quicker.

5. Above all, don't obsess over your diet! This is just not the time for it. If you gain a couple pounds over the holiday, let it go! It's not the end of the world, and it doesn't make you a failure. Beating up on yourself isn't going to make it better. If you're really that bothered, just ramp up your workouts for the next week or two, but give yourself some slack. Remember what the holidays are truly all about, and worrying about your weight ain't it!

These five basic tips are my holiday rules every year, and I have yet to see significant weight gain. I have felt a whole lot less guilt, and have been able to enjoy the holidays, including the food, even more!

What are your favorite holiday feast survival tips? Have you ever felt guilt for feasting over the holidays?
