Benefit Cosmetics Stay Don't Stray, $26.00
With the impending holidays drawing ever nearer, the top beauty worry on our minds is ensuring that our slap stays put into the late hours. With all our running to and fro, the last thing we need is for our eyeshadow and liner to be sliding down our faces at the company party. Not to worry as this is where our primers come into play. Today's beauty offering from Benefit Cosmetics is their best-selling two-in-one eyeshadow and concealer primer, Stay Don't Stray!

Stay Don't Stray is a do-it-all type primer. It helps eyeshadows and concealers stay on longer, not crease, and keep the colors true. It also claims to hydrate, fight ageing, and even skin tone, so it can be used alone for a "no makeup" look. The primer comes in two colors, light/medium and medium/deep, which is supposed to cover the spectrum of skin tones from light to dark.

To test a few of the claims, I pulled out some of my hardest to work with eyeshadows. I have a few that are super bright, but pigmentation when applied is a bit low. Before I started throwing on eyeshadow, I applied a small dab of Stay Don't Stray on my eyelids with its doe foot applicator, and then blended it out. When it comes to eyeshadow primers, I love doe foot applicators! I feel like I have a bit more control in applying the primer exactly where I want it.

Then, I got to work creating a look with a particular bright green shadow that always gives me fits. I was able to get a touch more color out of my eyeshadow, but just barely. This was a bit disappointing to me. Regardless, I soldiered forward. I finished my look, and even though it didn't make my shadows seem horribly brighter, I did notice that they looked velvety smooth and there was no shimmer fallout. Score! Hours later, the eyeshadow still looks fairly fresh with only minor wear.

In the end, I think that Stay Don't Stray is a pretty decent eyeshadow primer. If you are just looking for a primer that keeps your eyeshadow looking perfect all day, this isn't a bad choice. When it comes to their claims of evening out skin tone, I think it depends on exactly how much discoloration you have. If you have darker eyelids, it might not work as well as it would on someone with minor redness. I also think that if you are going to do tinted products, two shades is just not enough. Especially if you're suggesting it can be worn alone. You can do better, Benefit.

I'm on the fence as to whether I'll buy a full size of this product, but I am going to enjoy continuing to play around with it while it lasts. As long as it keeps my eyeshadow in place all day, I'm sold!

Do you use Benefit's Stay Don't Stray? What is your favorite eyeshadow primer?

    1. Yeah, it is a shame that some of the samples are a bit iffy. Though, I hate the fact that they added non-beauty bits inside. No one is shopping at Benefit for hair clips and elastic bracelets! xx

    1. I was thrilled to find that it was coming out in the US! It's been a fantastic primer into a brand that I had very little product of, so in that respect it has been a great gift even when some of the samples aren't my (glittery!) cup of tea! xx

    1. It's honestly not a bad primer, it's just not anything special. If you want a primer that will keep your eyeshadow looking fresh all day, this is a great one to try. It just depends on what you are looking for.

And, yes, the surprise of opening a window each day has definitely made the holidays even more jolly! Really hoping more brands will do advent calendars next year in the US! xx

    1. You know, I have yet to try any cream shadows as primers. I've used eyeliner before which works pretty well, though. Any cream shadows that you would suggest dipping into? xx

    1. I was worried it would sell out, so I snapped mine up back in October. I did see some floating around at my local ULTA right up until the beginning of December. Was sort of shocked they weren't all gone! xx
