Birchbox, $10/month
Ever since beauty subscription boxes began to gain steam, I've been dreaming of subscribing to one of my very own. I'd spend countless hours scouring blogs for unboxing posts just to feel like I was in on all the fun. But, of course, it wasn't as amazing as finding one of those boxes on my own doorstep would be. For years Birchbox had been at the top of my lust list, so I was thrilled to bits when my mom surprised me with a full year's subscription for Christmas! So, today, instead of reading all of those other unboxing posts, I get to bring you my very own Birchbox review. Let's take a peek at what came in this month's box!

Beauty Protector Protect and Detangle | Full-Size, $21.95 (Sample, $2.75)
From all of my time reading Birchbox unboxing posts, I'd heard a lot about this baby. The Beauty Protector Protect and Detangle has glowing reviews, and I can absolutely see why. Not only does it help detangle hair, including thick hair like mine, and keep it soft and protected when using heat, the scent is absolutely fantastic! It smells like cotton candy and sweets like Aquolina's Pink Sugar, and as y'all know, I love that sort of thing. Really liked this item and could easily see it becoming a full-size purchase in the future.

Benefit Cosmetics Ultra Plush Lip Gloss in Sugarbomb | Full-Size, $16.00 (Sample, $6.93)
This isn't my first rodeo with the Benefit Cosmetics Ultra Plush Lip Gloss in Sugarbomb! It came in my Benefit Cosmetics Countdown to Love Advent Calendar over the Christmas holiday, and I loved it then as much as I do now. Sugarbomb is a lovely pinky-nude gloss with a subtle shimmer that takes your lips from drab to fab in one quick swipe. It's the perfect everyday shade that works year round on all skin tones. I'm happy to add another tube of it to my collection as it's fast becoming a staple. Just need to get the matching blush now to complete the look!

 Harvey Prince Hello Perfume | Full-Size, $55.00 (Sample, $1.10)
Now I know not everyone is thrilled with receiving perfume samples, but I'm a perfume commitment-phobe, so perfume samples are like getting to date around and play the field with scents. So when I opened my Birchbox and saw this little vial of Harvey Prince's Hello Perfume inside, I was on Cloud 9! Hello smells absolutely AH-MAZING, y'all!  It's fresh, fruity and floral with notes of meyer lemon, mandarin, grapefruit, plumeria, and forsythia, and is going to be the perfect scent for the upcoming warm months. Out of everything in the box, this is the product I'm most likely going to be purchasing a full-size of in the near future.

Ruby Wing Color Changing Nail Polish in Ride 'Em Cowgirl | Full-Size, $10.00 (Sample, $4.66)
I love nail polish and I love sparkles, so this Color Changing Nail Polish from Ruby Wing is right up my alley. Not only does Ride 'Em Cowgirl glitter like a crapload of sequins, but it also changes color in the sun from a lush gold to an autumnal red shade. Now that is what I'm talking about! Despite being a glitter polish, it doesn't have a ton of staying power. However, it is perfect for parties and dries quick so you'll be out the door in no time. I especially love it applied only on the tips over top of another bright shade. I've gotten loads of compliments on this one, and it's sure to have people stopping you to ask what you're wearing, too!

Ghirardelli Toffee Crunch Chocolate Bar (Birchbox Find) | Full-Size, $2.68
I don't have much of a sweet tooth, but I have to admit that I can't resist a delicious chocolate bar when offered. Especially if it is paired with things like caramel or toffee. Let's just say that my sweet tooth was raring to go when I found this bad boy from Ghirardelli in my box! While it didn't reinvent the chocolate wheel, it was a fabulously tasty treat. I love that Birchbox will occasionally add on these little bits and bobs and I'll never turn down a bit of chocolate.

TOTAL BOX VALUE: $18.22

Overall, I loved my first box (and also see why people fawn over the packaging and boxes themselves), and I can't wait to see what's in store for February! Waiting is going to be so painful now. Guess I'm gonna have to learn a bit of patience (yeah, right!).

Did any of you get a Birchbox this month? What samples were in yours?

  1. Thanks for sharing this! I'm continually on the fence on whether or not to sign up for a beauty box! It looks like you got some great products!
