Birchbox | March 2014 - Review

Birchbox, $10/month
We're nearing the end of March and that means it's time to take a peek inside this month's Birchbox! March's theme is "Spring Forward", and it is all about discovering new favorites that help you get more out of the gorgeous spring months. I'm a lover of fall and winter, but I have to admit that I'm super excited for spring to get here, so these products could not have come at a better time. Let's take a look at all the March goodies!

• Coola Tinted Matte SPF 30 for Face | Full-Size, $36.00 (Sample, $3.60)
Suncare is so important when you're out and about soaking up the sun's rays, so I was excited to see this tinted mineral sunscreen from Coola in my box. I love two-in-one products that are easy to slap on and go as they make your routine that little bit quicker so you can spend more time enjoying the beautiful spring weather.

Unfortunately, this didn't end up being my cup of tea. It has a light, whipped consistency that I loved, and it works well at keeping my skin protected. However, there is almost no coverage at all and leaves me looking slightly yellow. On the plus side, it does create a nice, satin canvas for your makeup, is never greasy, and is a great substitute for your heavier primers (especially if your foundation has no SPF).

While the Coola Tinted Matte SPF 30 for Face won't become a full-size purchase for me, I could see it being a favorite for women who only wear the tiniest bit of makeup.

• DDF Ultra-Lite Oil-Free Moisturizing Dew | Full-Size, $42.00 (Sample, $24.71)
This deluxe sample from DDF gets the highest marks from me! I'm always on the lookout for products that will help me kick my skincare game into high gear, and the Ultra-Lite Oil-Free Moisturizing Dew might be just the thing. Not only does it hydrate the skin, but it also soothes and smoothes.

The biggest plus is that it leaves your skin in great condition without a greasy feel, and the smallest dab will do for the whole face. It boasts grape seed oil and aloe to get your skin looking and feeling top notch. If you are trying to avoid parabens, though, then this moisturizer will be one to skip.

• English Laundry No. 7 for Her | Full-Size, $90.00 (Sample, $2.65)
After watching a few unboxing videos from overseas, I knew that this English Laundry perfume sample was included in the UK Birchbox this month. So I was pleasantly surprised to see it turn up in my US Birchbox. No. 7 for Her is a little musky, a little floral, and all on top of a vanilla-almond base.

Initially, this perfume smells a bit powdery to me, similar to lilacs. However, when it dries down to the base, it leaves a scrummy scent. This isn't my favorite perfume ever, but I can see this being a nice floral option for those who love Chanel No. 5. I'll still be throwing it into my bag for when I need to freshen up during these spring days!

• Gilchrist and Soames London Collection Body Lotion | Full-Size, $16.00 (Sample, $3.00)
If there is one item from this month's box that everyone must buy, it would be this baby! Gilchrist and Soames are responsible for many of the luxe bath products you find in some of the world's nicest hotels. Now, you can buy the line and make everyday feel like a getaway!

This lotion has an amazing clean, floral scent that lingers, so you can forgo perfume. It is also lightweight, but so hydrating that it leaves your skin feeling a dream. The London Collection Body Lotion boasts sunflower seed oil, coconut oil, sweet almost oil, red tea, grape seed, milk thistle, and vitamin e for nourished, pampered skin. And there are no parabens!

The sample size is 1.5 oz, so there is loads of product to play with. It's another item going straight into my purse! A full sized bottle is only $16, and it is definitely going to be picked up. I'm in total ooey, gooey love with it!

• Ojon Damage Reverse Restorative Hair Treatment Plus | Full-Size, $33.00 (Sample, $2.55)
I am constantly dyeing and styling my hair, so I love pampering myself with a good hair treatment to keep my locks healthy. Ojon is a brand I've been wanting to try for ages, so I was quite pleased to see these packets in my Birchbox this month.

Not only that, but these are proper hair masks. These treatments aren't the type that you throw in during a regular shower and rinse out a couple of minutes later. Instead, they are thick and meant to coat your hair for at least 20 minutes. Applying the oil was a bit messy due to the sample coming in a sachet and having to be warmed up in your hands first, so there was a bit of a learning curve. And it was definitely a little uncomfortable sitting with greased up hair for nearly half an hour.

However, after shampooing it out and letting my hair air-dry, my tresses felt soft and revitalized for the first time in years, so I'd say it was definitely worth the trouble.

Overall, I really liked this month's box! There were some nice sized samples that will last me for a bit, and I liked that Birchbox snuck in a little Ghirardelli chocolate square (Cherry Tango, yum!) as an extra treat. I'm also glad to find an item that will become a full-size purchase. All in all, I'd say this box was a win!

Did you receive a Birchbox this month? What samples did your receive? Which of these samples interests you the most?
