ANNA SUI FLIGHT OF FANCY - REVIEW

Anna Sui Flight of Fancy

Anna Sui Flight of Fancy Rollerball
Anna Sui Flight of Fancy Rollerball, $18
Hello, beauties! I love a good perfume. They can set a mood, trigger beloved memories, and even give you a bit of insight into the woman wearing it. Everyone talks about how a woman should have a signature scent, but where's the fun in committing to one fragrance? I'm always on the look out for a new perfume to add to my rotation, and with it being spring I felt that now was the perfect time to add something fresh to the collection. After a frenzied trip to Sephora, I came away with today's beauty, and have not stopped wearing it since!

Anna Sui's Flight of Fancy is a gorgeously heady scent, absolutely perfect for the breezy, sunshine filled days we're heading into. Floral and fresh, this is one of those perfumes that is fantastic for both day and night. The top notes of lychee, yuzu, and lemon might would lead you to believe that Flight of Fancy would lean more fruity than floral. However, it's tempered by the beautiful heart notes of magnolia, freesia, and rose. In fact, the scent of freesia is what drew me to this fragrance in the first place as it transports me to my pre-teen years which are clouded in a haze of freesia body spray. Luckily, Flight of Fancy is far more grown up, and when it dries down to the base notes of musk, amber, and woods, it becomes wildly sexy, too. Considering that Anna Sui created this fragrance as a scented symbol of that time when a girl becomes a woman, I'd say that Flight of Fancy is spot on, and can appeal to both the girl and woman sides in us all.

I only picked up a rollerball as I'm terrible about never making it through full bottles of perfume. What can I say? I'm a scent commitment-phobe! However, I think this will be an exception as I have a feeling that a full bottle will be in order with how deeply I've fallen in love with it. It's just so bright and feminine, and may well be my signature spring scent this year. I just cannot get enough and plan on dabbling into more Anna Sui scents in the future!

Have you tried any Anna Sui perfumes? What scents are you wearing this season?

Stay gorgeous, peaches!

RIMMEL LONDON SCANDALEYES SHOW OFF MASCARA - REVIEW

Rimmel Scandaleyes Show Off Mascara

Rimmel Scandaleyes Show Off Mascara, Mascara Brush
Rimmel London Scandaleyes Show Off Mascara, $6.99
Hello, beauties! I hope you've had a fabulous week. Any good weekend plans? I know that for me, weekend fun begins and ends with how I decide to do my makeup. A huge part of that is me picking the perfect mascara to give myself the flirtiest, flutteriest lashes possible. As I have tiny, baby lashes, I am exceptionally critical of mascaras that I buy, so it's always a bummer to come across one that leaves me less than impressed. Today we're taking a look at one such mascara that I feel is just not worth the precious pennies.

Rimmel London Scandaleyes Show Off Mascara touts defined volume, lift and length, and features a unique brush with a ball tip to help reach every last lash. In fact, it even shows a little illustration of the brush on the tube itself. However, I should have seen the warning signs when I realized that the brush did not, in fact, have a ball of any sort on it. Instead, it was just tipped with different sized bristles to give a spherical illusion. Naughty, naughty!

The brush issue aside, I didn't find the product to live up to it's claims, either. As I said, I'm a short lashed lass, and I found no real measurable added length from this mascara. There was an extra bit of lift and curl which was quite nice, but it wasn't enough to redeem this little baby. Also, despite the shade being called Extreme Black, it tinted my lashes more of a brown-black hue than anything else. Definitely not extreme! Lastly, I found this mascara to be flakier than a friend who always forgets to pay you back, and the pigment transfers after an hour or so much the way unprimed eyeliner does on oily lids. Imagine my surprise at getting raccoon eyes from my mascara! Trust me, that raccoon look only looks cute on raccoons (who are adorable, let's be real).

In general, the Scandaleyes Show Off Mascara was wholly underwhelming. I'm a fan of Rimmel London, so this won't put me off from the brand. It's just a bit disappointing. I am, however, still on the lookout for my HG drugstore mascara. If you have a suggestion, leave it in the comments below!

LIPS AND TIPS FOR SPRING

Spring Lipsticks from Revlon and NYX

Spring Nail Polishes from Revlon

Hello, beauties! Spring is well and truly here to stay, and that means it's time to start brightening up our makeup routines alongside our wardrobes. After all, no look is complete without adding a bit of color to our faces and fingers is it? Today, I thought I'd show you a few spring ready products to help get your pout and your nails on trend for these beautiful warmer months!

When it comes to lips, pastel hues are never out of style. Baby pinks are the standard classic, but this year I'm leaning more towards beautiful lilac and lavender shades for a funky twist on tradition. One such lipstick is NYX's Round Lipstick in Castle which is an incredibly gorgeous deep lavender color. For an added pop, pair it with a slick of Revlon's Super Lustrous Lip Gloss in Sugar Violet, an uber sheer electric purple packed with glitter. Together they create a fantastically fresh and wearable look that works for days in the office and nights with your new spring fling! If sheer washes of color are more your speed, Revlon's Colorburst Lip Butter in Tutti Fruiti will serve you up a sweet orange sherbet tint that can take you through spring and right on into summer.

Moving onto nails, the speckled egg trend is all the rage right now. With Easter right around the corner, I've enjoyed jazzing this idea up by wearing Revlon's Nail Enamel in Girly, a purply pink filled with multi-color, multi-sized glitter. It applies much like your traditional speckled egg polishes with a decidedly glam edge. Perfect for girls who like turning trends on their heads and will be a smash hit at Sunrise Service! If the promise of sun has you giddy with glee, then Revlon's Parfumerie Scented Nail Enamel in Sunlit Grass might just be the answer to your spring beauty dreams. A vibrant true yellow, Sunlit Grass is the epitome of joy and smells like the perfumed breezes blowing through a newly blooming garden. A couple of coats will have you singing Pharrell's 'Happy' at the top of your lungs in no time!

What hues and trends are gracing your lips and tips this spring?

Stay gorgeous, peaches!

(I realized after writing this post how heavily I featured Revlon products. This was absolutely not intentional, but it IS a testament to just how on point Revlon has been with their cosmetics lately!)

SOAP AND GLORY HAND FOOD - REVIEW

Soap and Glory, Hand Food, Lotion, Pink Tube, Southern Charmed Blog

Hello, beauties! I hope you've all had a fabbity start to the week! Now, I don't know about y'all, but this transition to warmer weather is doing a number on my skin. Add on top how often I'm having to wash my hands to administer my kitty, Zoey's, medicine, and you can imagine just how much my poor hands are suffering. Last summer, I picked up a small tube of the cult classic Hand Food from Soap and Glory. Me being the weirdo that I am, set it aside and forgot about it. Now that my hands are in need of some TLC, I've been giving this lotion a go to see if it really lives up to all the hype! Shall we?

Soap and Glory's Hand Food, $6.00 for 50 ml, is touted as the ultimate hydrating hand cream. Packed with shea butter, macadamia oil, and marshmallow, Hand Food was created for even the most stubborn dry skin. For me, the true positives lie in the packaging, the price, and the scent. When it comes to Soap and Glory, their packaging is just so cute and bubbly! Everytime I pull this baby out of my bag, I have to smile when I see that lovely pink and silver tube. Plus, it is a great size to throw in your purse.

The price is also budget friendly. That is, unless you are the type of person who powers through tubes of hand lotion like they are candy. But for six bucks, you should get a good month's worth per tube, so it's still a bargain. And lastly, the smell is this divine floral blend that is perfect for these warmer months! The scent lasts for a couple of hours without being too overpowering, so there is no fear in applying too much.

Unfortunately, the lotion itself is a bit of a disappointment to me. The formula is decently thick which is definitely a plus, but I found it to have a lingering greasiness that I didn't care for. Oily fingerprints all over your iPhone is just not cute, y'all! It also left my hands feeling a bit filmy, which gave me the distinct urge to wash my hands. The real issue for me is that within half an hour or so, my hands began to feel dry again. Perhaps my skin is in need of something a bit more hardcore.

In the end, if you can get past that bit of greasiness, I think this could be an alright lotion for those who are just looking for a product to maintain already supple hands. If you are having some issues with dry skin, this might not be strong enough to get your skin into shape. So, it seems that I'm still on the lookout for that HG hand cream. If you've got any suggestions, leave them for me in the comments below!

BLOGGING TIPS | 3 TOP TIPS TO AVOID BLOG BURNOUT

Top Tips, Avoid Blog Burnout, Southern Charmed Blog

Hello, beauties! In the past few months I've been finding myself nearing blog burnout at every turn. In my attempts to be a "serious blogger", I was putting every free waking moment into the blog in some way. Whether it was social media, post writing, picture taking, product testing, reading magazines and blogs (both local and international), or studying up on important bloggy things like layout creation and SEO. I'd started posting daily and thought I was doing all the things a proper blogger would do (fake it 'til you make it and all that jazz). Cue massive flaming burnout!

Due to a mix of life, anxiety, self-doubt, and biting off more than I could chew, I was forced to take some time away and get myself in order. While on break, I beat myself up pretty badly. I felt like an absolute failure. It was then that I realized that I had been sweating too much blog stuff, and, frankly, I didn't want to go back to that! So here are three things that I think every blogger needs to know, for sanity's sake!

**********

• YOUR BLOG DOES NOT HAVE TO BE PERFECT.
Seriously! So many bloggers are looking for perfection. Wanting perfect layouts, photos that would rival Annie Leibovitz's, and content that goes viral. Building your blog takes time. Minus the rare person, any blogger who does well with their photography or writing or whatever else out of the gate probably has a prior background in those facets of blogging. Even still, I would bet that those bloggers aren't totally satisfied all the time, either. I have a background in writing and editing, and I know I'm still hyper critical of my posts. Cutting ourselves some slack is key. The only thing we can expect from ourselves is our best efforts. Which leads me to my next point...

• DO NOT COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHER BLOGGERS.
DO NOT DO IT! DO NOT! NOT EVEN ONCE! Part of my self-doubt issues came from seeing the success of other bloggers and wondering what the hell I was doing wrong. My growth had stagnated, and no matter what I tried, I couldn't kick things back into gear. This led to me noticing the stats of other bloggers more than I ever had before, and soon I was an absolute, self-loathing wreck. When I started feeling nauseated just looking at my laptop, I knew something had to be done.

If you are suffering from blog stat envy, step away from the computer and spend some non-judgmental time with yourself. Would you let someone talk trash about a friend the way you're dogging yourself? Of course not! There is enough room for ALL of us to be successful. I soon came to find that even bloggers I love had lulls, drops in comments, and low times. What did they do? They kept at it! Armed with this knowledge, the best thing to do is forgive yourself, cut yourself some slack, and then get back to what you love, blogging!

• IT'S OKAY IF YOU NEED A BREAK.
Even the biggest, richest, most fabulous stars need vacations from their glamorous jobs, so why not take one from the blog every now and again, too? The blog will be there when you come back, and so will your readers. Those loyal guys and gals want you to take care of yourself. They want you to deliver content you're happy with versus posts you've thrown together half-assed for the sake of a new entry. If you're feeling stretched thin, take a break before you snap!

**********

At the end of everything, blogging should be fun. Even if it becomes a job one day, it doesn't have to feel that way. Learn to let go of the blog stuff and focus on all the ways you've enriched your life through the blog you've created. Think of all the friends you've made, the opportunities you've had, the skills you've honed, and the milestones you've reached. You'll find yourself having much more fun and loads less stress over it.

Love yourself, forgive yourself, and cut yourself a ton of slack! Like Cheryl Cole says, "We've gotta fight, fight, fight, fight, fight for this blog. If it's worth having, it's worth fighting for". Okay, so she didn't exactly say that, but that doesn't make it any less true. You can make it, babes!

What are your top tips for keeping blogging fun? How do you combat stat stalking or blogger burnout?

Stay gorgeous, peaches!

BENEFIT GIMME BROW - REVIEW

Hello, beauties! Happy April! I hope no one got any nasty tricks yesterday for April Fool's Day. I'm hoping to get back to my regular posting schedule this month. To get back into the swing of things, I'm bringing you a review of the new, fabulicious Gimme Brow from Benefit (can you tell where this is going?)!

Gimme Brow, $22.00, is one of Benefit's newest offerings meant to help you get the groomed, natural-looking brows of your dreams. Boasting both tint and fibers, Gimme Brow helps fill in sparse patches and define your brows perfectly every time. Adhering to both the existing brow hairs as well as the minute hairs of the face, the fiber formula fills the brows, thickening them in places that waxing, over-plucking, and plain ol' naughty genetics has left bare and uneven. The gel tint defines the brows for an easy, groomed, daytime look that will have you out the door faster than you can say Gimme Brow!

I know other bloggers have been saying it, and it almost feels a little ridiculous to say it too, but I've just gotta. I LOVE this stuff! As much as I adore my Urban Decay Brow Box, it does get tiring to use it on days when I just want to do a little shopping or run some errands. I've been longing for a quick, natural-looking, no-fuss brow product that defines the brow without making them too dramatic, and Benefit has answered the call! I picked up a tube in Light/Medium as my natural brows are quite light compared to my hair, and while I feel like I'll need the darker tube next time around, this little baby still does the trick!

As for application, I love the tiny applicator brush. The point on the end is perfect for shaping the brows and the brush is just the right size for wrangling those wigglers into submission! Plus, it's just so darn cute, I can't even stand it! The tint applies evenly and can be built up to add a little more drama if that's your thing. And there is no weird dryness or crunchy feeling like with other brow mascara type products. Just gorgeous, soft, natural-looking brows that can be achieved in a matter of seconds! Seriously, my everyday eyebrow game has been revolutionized!

If you are the type of person who wants to get through their eyebrow routine a little quicker, or who is looking to fill in those over-plucked patches (ladies, y'all know who you are), Gimme Brow is the for real deal. Thank you, Benefit, for doing the dang thing with this beauty of a product! I have a feeling this is going to be a fave of mine for quite awhile to come. If you haven't gotten yourself a tube yet, you need to walk, bike, drive, skate, whatever it is you do (I don't know your life!) right down to your nearest beauty retailer and snap up some Gimme Brow!

Have you tried Gimme Brow yet? What are your tips for achieving a quick, groomed brow?

Stay gorgeous, peaches!
