Birchbox | July 2016 - Review

Birchbox, $10.00/month

Every day when morning rolls around, most of us want nothing more than a quick and easy beauty routine that will have us energized and out the door in no time flat. That is never truer than during the summer when it's just too damn hot to be fussing about with our hair and makeup. This month, Birchbox knows just what we need to feel pampered and beautiful in minutes with their My Morning Routine themed box. From skincare to beauty and everything in between, July's samples will have you summer ready and your mornings sorted.

• Raw Spirit Fragrances Mystic Pearl Eau de Parfum | Full-Size, $90.00 (Sample, $4.50)

I know a lot of people hate getting fragrance samples in their Birchbox, but I can never get enough. And this month Birchbox knocked it out of the park with this sample of Raw Spirit Fragrances' Mystic Pearl. Inspired by the seas, Mystic Pearl invokes notes of white flowers, jasmine, frangipani, coconut, cinnamon, clove, and of course, pearl. This is a gorgeous, grown-up, feminine, summer scent that makes me dream of an exotic island vacation. Plus, part of the proceeds of Mystic Pearl's sales go to support childhood education projects in North Bali. How awesome is that?

• MDSolarSciences Mineral Creme SPF 50 Broad Spectrum UVA-UVB Sunscreen | Full-Size, $30.00 (Sample, $4.41)

Sun care is important all year round, but especially during the summer months when we have more hours of sunlight bearing down on our sensitive skin. So when this sample of the MDSolarScience Mineral Creme SPF 50 Sunscreen popped up in my box, I felt ready to take on the summer. However, while the sunscreen worked like a dream (i.e. I didn't get burnt to a crisp), it wasn't great for putting under my makeup as it made my foundation incredibly patchy. This would definitely be best as a daily sun cream for your body as there is no scent and it's grease-free. But you'll be better off with something else for under your makeup.

• Balance Me Radiant Face Mask | Full-Size, $34.00 (Sample, $6.80)

After hearing rave reviews for ages from all my friends in the UK, I've been itching to try something from Balance Me's range of natural skincare products. And when this little beauty turned up in this month's Birchbox, it felt like Christmas in July. The Balance Me Radiant Face Mask is a kaolin clay based mask meant to help soften the skin and sop up extra oil. It also boasts walnut shells and fruit acids to gently exfoliate and brighten your skin. Just one use made my summer trouble spots a thing of the past. I think a full-size of this mask will be a necessary addition to my skincare routine!

• Smashbox Cosmetics X-Rated Mascara | Full-Size, $22.00 (Sample, $3.66)

Other than concealer, the makeup item I run through the fastest has to be mascara. That means that anytime a mascara shows up in my monthly Birchbox, I can't help but be excited. Now that I've given the Smashbox Cosmetics X-Rated Mascara a test drive, I can say with confidence that this is a fairly decent one. It's not my favorite, but it gets the job done and doesn't smudge. The fiber formula can take my stubby, baby lashes from non-existent to fully fleshed in two or three coats. It claims it can be done in one, but your best results are with a little more product. Definitely worth a look, at least.

• Marcelle 3-in-1 Micellar Solution | Full-Size, $21.00 (Sample, $3.50)

I have to admit, I've never really cared for micellar waters. I know that every beauty guru worth her salt has been raving about how amazing they are and how easily they remove your makeup, but my experiences haven't been quite as game-changing. That is until I tried this sample of the Marcelle 3-in-1 Micellar Solution. It removes my makeup like a dream and cleanses my skin without stripping it or making it overly oily. It's packed with glycerin, aloe, and cucumber extract which leaves my skin soft and bright. Plus, it's scent-free so it won't offend sensitive noses. If you've been like me and haven't been getting on with micellar waters, this is the one you'll want to give a go!

Total Box Value: $22.87

Overall, I was pleased with this month's Birchbox. Everything in it will be a nice addition to my current beauty routine, and a few choice items will become full-size purchases. And while many are getting tired of having such small samples in their boxes, I'm still okay with that as I can barely get through all of the full-size products I own as it is. This allows me to try out several new things each month to spice up my routine without having to stray too far from all my tried and true products. And, for me, that's all I'm really expecting.

What did you get in your Birchbox this month? Which of these samples would you like to try the most?

    1. Honestly, it is the best micellar water I've come across so far. No residue, no scent, and doesn't dry out or irritate the skin. You'll have to give it a go! xx

  3. Love the face mask. Clay mask is always useful, especially in summers. It can nicely remove tans.
