PLAYLIST: My January 2017 Edit

spotify-playlist, january-2017-edit, music-playlist, playlist-mix, pop-music, edm-music, top-40

When it comes to music, I'm the kind of girl who likes to set a mood. Certain playlists can whisk me away and help me vividly remember what I was doing, thinking, and feeling at different points in my life. I'm also a huge fan of mix CDs and keep them all dated like little musical scrapbooks for me to look back on. Every success, every heartache, every important moment on nostalgic display.

Music is what keeps me going day in and day out. It's what I listen to when I'm working out, when I'm blogging, when I'm taking a road trip, or even when I'm just lying in bed working through whatever is happening in my life. So I thought it might be fun to share with you the songs that I'm loving most at the moment, that keep me company as I go about my day.

In January, I'm straddling the line between 2016 and the new year with several songs that were absolute favorites last year ("Cake by the Ocean" by DNCE) and a handful of new songs that are helping me ring in 2017 in style ("In the Name of Love" by Martin Garrix feat. Bebe Rexha). I love all sorts of different genres, but at the moment I've been leaning mostly towards pop hits and EDM beats.

Want to know what else I've been dancing-like-no-one-is-watching to? Then check out my January 2017 Edit playlist below! And be sure to follow me on Spotify to keep up with all my newest mixes. You just might find a few new favorites while you're there.

What are you listening to this month? Leave your current favorite songs in the comments!

MAC Cosmetics Lipstick | Myth - Review + Swatch

MAC Lipstick in Myth, $17.00

A good nude lipstick is an absolute essential in any woman's makeup arsenal. However, loads of trial and error can be necessary for finding that perfect neutral hue. Between a seemingly endless array of brown nudes, pink nudes, berry nudes, and having to figure out what looks best for your individual skin tone, hunting down that holy grail nude shade can feel like an absolute nightmare.

If you're fair-skinned like I am, finding a nude that doesn't completely wash you out is like searching for a very beautiful needle inside of an almost invisible haystack. MAC is notorious for their extensive range of shades to suit every taste and skin tone, and Myth is highly considered as the perfect nude shade for alabaster babes. But is Myth really worth all of the hype?

Kali Box - Review

However, all words and opinions are my own, as always.

In recent years, I've started to become more concerned about what I put in my body as well as what I put on my body. While the first things that might come to mind would be items such as food and medications, it also extends to things like feminine hygiene products. Yes, there can surprisingly be quite a lot to consider when picking out our period paraphernalia.

Let's face it. Talking about our monthly cycles makes a lot of people uncomfortable. Even in the blogosphere there is a lot of fuss about whether bloggers should talk about Aunt Flo. I say, Grow up, ladies and gents! Quit clutching your pearls. Knowing about your options can only be a good thing. And considering that we still live in a world where women in many countries go without sanitary items and are shunned during their periods, I can only be grateful at the massive amounts of choice we have when it comes to our time of the month.

It's a cold, winter evening. You're curled up in your favorite chair, wrapped in a warm, knit blanket, a cup of cocoa steaming by your side. The logs crackle in your fireplace as snow gently taps against the frosty window pane. The world is quiet after the hustle and bustle of the holidays. What better time is there to settle in with a good book and unwind? And when it's chilly outside, nothing warms me up faster than a heart-pounding thriller. Here are the five mystery novels on my to-be-read pile this winter!

Clinique 7 Day Scrub Cream - Review

clinique-7-day-scrub-cream
Clinique 7 Day Scrub Cream, $21.00
Now that winter is here, it's the perfect time to begin assessing our skincare needs for the upcoming cold months. For most of us, that means curating products to help keep dry, element-worn skin at bay. And if you're anything like me, then you're always on the search for that miracle product that will give those parched patches the boot.

I can't tell you how many scrubs, peels, masks and moisturizers I've tried in the hope that something will give me the perfectly polished skin of my dreams. That's pretty much the entire contents of my skincare drawer! However, I think I may have finally found the perfect contender to battle our dry skin woes.

Buku | Raleigh, NC

buku-restaurant, global-street-food, raleigh-nc

Despite having lived in the Raleigh area for 15 years, I've never really taken the time to explore it. Sure, I've visited a few of the finer points here such as museums and theatres. But when it comes to food, I've been stuck in a rut for longer than I care to admit. In recent years, the downtown restaurant scene has been absolutely booming with new offerings, an emphasis on farm to table, and unique spins on foreign cuisine.

Last month, my mother, husband and I had tickets to a local production of Monty Python's Spamalot at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts in Downtown Raleigh. As is our usual tradition before big events, we wanted to have a nice meal out at a nearby restaurant. Knowing that the Raleigh food culture is as robust as ever, we pondered our choices and landed on global street food restaurant Buku, a mere five minute walk from the venue into the heart of the city.

However, all words and opinions are my own, as always.

As I'm getting older, I'm becoming more discerning about what I put on my face, hair, and body. I lean towards products packed with nourishing ingredients that lock in moisture and luster while fighting the signs of aging. And if those products are natural and organic, all the better. So when I was contacted by the gang at Carrello by Currie to see if I was interested in exploring their brand of organic hair and skincare products, it's no surprise that my answer was an enthusiastic "yes". Today we'll be taking a look at an innovative brand that combines modern science with traditional Italian beauty wisdom.

My 2017 Resolutions

my-2017-resolutions, new-years-resolutions

Happy 2017, everyone! I hope everyone has been able to kickstart the New Year off right and is ready to take on these next twelve months like a total boss. Is it just me or is anyone else thrilled to pieces to finally be able to put 2016 behind us? Even if we leave out politics, 2016 truly seemed like one of those years where more bad happened than good. Thankfully, 2016 is firmly in our rearview and it's time to look forward to all of the possibilities that 2017 holds. And we all know what that means: RESOLUTIONS!

If you were a reader of my blog last year, you'll know I kicked off 2016 in much the same way with a list of resolutions I wanted to achieve throughout the year. And it's safe to say that I missed the mark on all except one of them (Spoiler Alert!: It was to read more books. Check!). I won't lie and say that I always keep my resolutions, but 2016 was an especially bad year in terms of staying on track. Keeping that in mind, I'm hoping that 2017 will see me buckling down a bit more and really getting shit done. So, without further adieu, here are my personal, health, financial, and blogging goals for the upcoming year!
