Birchbox, $10.00/month

It's January, and that means it's time to make new goals, create new habits, and energize ourselves for the upcoming year. It also means the beginning of a new year for our favorite subscription boxes. This month, veteran beauty box on the block, Birchbox, has teamed up with SELF Magazine to celebrate 365 days of wellness, as well as to curate a Your Greatest Self themed box filled with items meant to refresh and reset your beauty routine. Let's take a peek at everything you need to kickstart your 2017 off right.

• Shiseido Perfect Cleansing Oil | Full-Size, $32.00 (Sample, $7.11)

When it comes to cleansing, I've always been the plain sort with just cleanser and water. Sure, I might pull out a makeup wipe or eye-makeup remover, but my bread and butter has always just been something that provides a good lather. Using an oil to remove my makeup and cleanse my face intrigued me, and after using this beauty from Shiseido, I'm converted! Not only did it remove even the most stubborn of my makeup, but it didn't strip away my natural oils keeping my skin soft and smooth. Plus, the addition of grape seed oil can only be counted as a bonus. Definitely recommend giving this one a go!

• Wilma Schumann Skin Care Hydrating Collagen Eye Pads | Full-Size, $18.00 (Sample, $3.60)

Lately, I've become an absolute mask junkie. So when I saw that the Wilma Schumann Collagen Eye Pads were making an appearance in the curated box this month, it was just one more reason to select it. These thick, 100% collagen-coated eye pads are made to fit around the contours of your eyes (and mouth, oddly enough). And all you have to do is place these babies where you'd like, and they stay put for the full 20 minute duration. I'm lucky that I don't have too many fine lines around my eyes yet, but this mask made my undereye area feel plumper, hydrated, and soothed. Worth a look if you're wanting to get into the eye mask scene.

• Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner | Full-Size, $18.00 (Sample, $10.29)

In the past several years, I've been getting more and more into liquid eyeliner. And Eyeko is a brand that came up over and over in my search for the best of the best. Unfortunately, every time I'd go to purchase or order one, they'd all be sold out or unavailable. And now I can see why! This is one of the blackest liquid eyeliners I've ever tried, and it stays put and smudge-free for ages. The small, pointed nib is perfect for getting a razor sharp cat-eye every time, and you can make your lines as bold or as subtle as you want. I'm purchasing a full-size of this baby immediately (if they're still in stock!).

• Chella Eyebrow Defining Gel | Full-Size, $18.00 (Sample, $12.00)

A clear brow gel might seem like a plain thing to get in a Birchbox, but it can definitely be one of those unsung tools in your arsenal. This Chella Eyebrow Defining Gel locks your brows into place with just a couple of swipes, and can be used alone or on top of your other brow products for that extra wow factor. This beauty really does the job and is a slightly cheaper dupe for the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Gel. I'll be getting quite a lot of use out of this!

birchbox-january-2017, self-magazine, klorane-dry-shampoo

• Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk | Full-Size, $20.00 (Sample, $6.25)

Despite the fact that I already trialed the Klorane Dry Shampoo in a past box, I knew that by selecting the curated box for the month that I'd be getting another bottle. And that's half the reason I chose the box! This is one of my absolute favorite dry shampoos (and it's French, ooh la la!). Gorgeously scented, this dry shampoo texturizes your hair, sops up oil, and nourishes the scalp, all without any white, powdery residue. If there is one product from this box that I recommend everyone purchase, this one would be it!

Overall, I am thoroughly impressed with the January curated Birchbox. Every single product was an absolute winner, and the box value is nearly four times what I paid for the box itself. I still think Birchbox is one of the most reliable beauty boxes out there for those who are looking to trial new products and are okay with sample sizes. I've hemmed and hawed over whether to cancel and try some other subscription box, but for now I think I'll continue to stick around.

What did you get in your Birchbox this month? Which of these products are you most excited about?
